The Fifth Street School project involves the rehabilitation and adaptive
reuse of a WPA-era elementary school in downtown Las Vegas. The 26,000
square footage school, built in 1936, is a rare example of Mission-style
architecture in Las Vegas.
The ongoing rehabilitation project includes restoration of the building’s
exterior to its historic appearance and renovation of the interiors
to accommodate the new use of the building. Existing windows will be
repaired; missing windows and doors will be replicated to match the
original items, and the roof will be restored to its original style
and color palette. Heritage Architecture & Planning is the Historic
Architect on the design team led by KGA Architecture. In addition, Heritage
Architecture & Planning has prepared the Rehabilitation Tax Credit
application and submitted the documents to the State Historic Preservation
Office (SHPO) of Nevada and the National Park Service.
