The Showley brothers erected this structure for their wholesale confectionery business in 1924. Later uses included office space and artists’ lofts. In 1982, the building was listed as a Historic Site.
A Treatment Plan was developed for the retention of the building which is located within the Padres Ballpark development area. The plan required the relocation of the Candy Factory building one block east. Heritage Architecture & Planning provided preservation architectural services for the Historic American Building Survey (HABS) documentation of the building as well as the stabilization and relocation of the three million pound unreinforced masonry building to its new location. Currently, Heritage is providing preservation consulting for seismic stabilization, restoration, and tenant improvements.
