In 1959, the Jack London State Historic Park was created and the House of Happy Walls was organized as a museum and memorial to honor Jack London's life. The 1919 main building, known as the Happy Walls, is a reinforced stone masonry building designed in a high craftsman style. This rough stone structure contains London's personal collection of South Pacific art objects, original furnishings, and many mementos of the writer's adventurous life.
Heritage Architecture & Planning performed an architectural conservation assessment program for the House of Happy Walls. The work included a detailed building condition analysis (landscaping, building exterior, roof, HVAC, security, fire protection, seismic strengthening), recommendations for museum conservation, and plans for staffing needs.
